A text. A question.
A conversation.

PRACTICE 01

Record the witness

Open an official collection and choose one manuscript or fragment. Record its catalog identifier, the passage or work identified by the catalog, and any stated column or line numbers. Note what the catalog marks as uncertain.

PRACTICE 02

Separate seeing from reading

If an image and transcription are available, compare them. Identify a visible feature, a transcribed reading, and an editorial restoration or uncertainty if one is marked. If you cannot read the script, say so.

PRACTICE 03

Compare without sensationalizing

Use the Great Isaiah Scroll viewer, or an available IAA biblical fragment, to select a passage. Record the translation and edition used for comparison. List a question about wording without guessing the cause of a difference.

Bring it to the Table.

Close with one observation, one interpretation, and one question still open. Let each participant name their own tradition and convictions; agreement is not a condition of hospitality.

These self-guided resources are free and remain within The Assembly. Assembly notes are AI-assisted editorial material, not a claim of specialist or rabbinic review.
