Free introductory pathway · Amharic

Listen to language in everyday life.

Begin with a short listening and speaking sequence using the freely accessible FSI materials.

A LAKESIDE VISION · CONCEPTUAL ARTWORK

Three short, source-guided lessons. Allow 20–30 minutes each. These introduce a learning method and resources; they are not a complete language curriculum or instructor-led course. No sign-in or payment is required.

Your source shelf

Lesson 1 / 3

Listen before memorizing

Open Volume 1 and its first available lesson audio. Listen once without repeating. On a second pass, follow the accompanying dialogue or exercise.

Try it

Note where one speaker stops and another begins. Replay one short exchange three times.

Review your work

Use the recording as your pronunciation model. The materials are historical, so contexts and usage may need a current speaker’s explanation.

Lesson 2 / 3

Connect sound and meaning

Select three short expressions from that opening lesson. Read their supplied meanings, then listen again while pointing to each expression.

Try it

Create a three-column notebook: expression, meaning, and a reminder of its context. Repeat with the recording.

Review your work

Compare with the text rather than guessing a translation from sound alone.

Lesson 3 / 3

Rehearse and review

Practice one short exchange from the source, first with the text and then from memory. Return to the recording after each attempt.

Try it

Write what you can recall, check it, and mark one feature to practice tomorrow.

Review your work

Self-study completion means you performed the exercise; it is not a fluency assessment.

Checkboxes are temporary and are not saved or sent. Keep your work in a notebook or print this page. External resources are independently operated; links do not imply partnership. Some providers also offer paid products, which are not required for these activities.
